Viking
Village commercial dock has been in continuous operation since the
1920's when it was founded by a group of Scandinavian fishermen in
the pound net fishery. Over the ensuing decades the product mix has
changed to one consisting primarily of sea scallops, as well as
inshore netfish and pelagic longline product.
In 2002 management made the commitment to completely rebuild the
existing facility to ensure that Viking Village dock is positioned
to continue its tradition of top quality commercial seafood
production.
Construction, beginning with all new bulkheading and an additional
T-Dock was begun in 2003. There will be a total of four new
buildings significantly increasing cooler and freezer space, and ice
making capacity. The packout dock has been enclosed and enlarged,
and office facilities will be modernized to facilitate growth in
domestic and export markets. Construction is complete with the
exception of new office facilities.
